BUILDING A BRAND
Courtmacsherry Hotel is a family run Victorian hotel in West Cork. They wanted to create a new logo and identity that would have a feel of luxury and quality to it but also contain an element from the hotel’s history.
Logo Design & Brand Identity
I started working with Billy & Ellen in 2014 when they came to me to work on refreshing their logo and brand identity (colours, fonts etc.). They wanted their logo to contain a sense of the hotel’s history while still having a contemporary feel to it. The logo was created from a sketch Billy’s grandfather drew of the Cork tree on the front lawn back in the 1970s. We felt it reflected the hotel well as it matched the original brief but additionally brought a sense of growth and change highlighting the continual improvements made to the hotel’s facilities and services. The blue colour chosen is to reflect their location by the sea and the gold to both match the Cork tree and the high standards they consistently deliver to their customers.
Photography & Videography
In the last 1-2 years we felt that the existing collection of photos wasn’t showcasing the quality of the hotel and highlighting the work that had been done in the hotel over the preceding years to the rooms, bars and dining areas, I hired a local photographer from the city to create more dynamic images that better presented the hotel and it’s facilities, focusing mainly on the rooms, food and bar areas. In spring/ summer 2021 the work will continue as well as engaging with a local videographer to capture drone footage of the local and surrounding areas.
Copywriting, SEO & Social Media
In September 2019 we began the redesign of the hotel website to bring it up to a more contemporary standard and to better communicate to their audience at home and abroad. Using the design elements from the brand refresh and the photographic assets we rebuilt the website over the following months. In 2020 I engaged with a professional copywriter and SEO expert in Cork to further expand on the hotel’s audience, focussing on several different audience categories, markets and seasons. The work entailed several sessions with Billy & Ellen to better understand their current and future objectives for the business, plus specific research on the audience and what their expectations and wants were, so as to reflect this better in the website text as well as implementing the relevant SEO changes to the backend of the website
